Aztec Monolith of Fate

A group of mysterious Aztec relics are presented to the audience. A small box, and a larger cylindrical container. You, the performer, first lift the cylindrical cover revealing underneath an ornate Aztec monolith. The story is told that “Long ago the ancient Aztecs thought that monoliths such as these could see their futures and know their fate. If we examine the monolith more carefully we can see that it spins freely around on its base and that each side of the monolith is a different color and depicts a different deity each representing one of the 4 seasons of the year. Gold for summer, turning to the browning of copper in the fall, Silver for the heart of winter, leading to the green of spring.” After showing all the sides of the monolith you give it a spin and as it continues to spin you slowly place the cylindrical cover over the monolith hiding it from view. You can then explain how it’s now impossible for us to know where the monolith might stop.

You now open the small box and pour out onto the table 4 ancient coins. Each coin is again a different color representing the seasons, Gold, Copper, Silver, Green. You ask the spectator to freely choose any coin they wish, a coin that maybe represents their favorite season, the choice is 100% their own free choice. After the spectator picks their coin they are asked to hold the coin tight in their hand and to hold an image of the season they picked in their head.

Bringing attention back to the monolith that is still hidden from sight you now slowly lift the cylindrical cover to reveal the monolith had stopped spinning with the selected season pointed directly at the spectator. The monolith can be spun again, covered back over and another coin freely chosen from the box, only to again reveal the monolith stopped spinning on the chosen season/color!

Handmade and hand painted, each of these sets is produced with care and in limited series. A collectors signed certificate of authenticity is included with each set.

The Monolith Box measures approx. 8cm Wide x 10cm High.

Another great effect from Anthony…. it arrived this morning and only took 5 minutes to work out how to use it. Like all of his work it is a class quality item… my only comment would be that I didn’t like the shade of green used to represent Spring !… but that is a personal taste comment… I would highly recommend this piece… along with Ribbons of Ra, Eyes of Loki this will surely become a very collectable/useable item from Retro Rocketeers in the future. Well done Anthony … brilliant idea

“Aztec Monolith of Fate” is the latest jewel from Anthony Yap’s master workshop. Like all his productions, the props are very beautiful and always work 100%. The trick principle is possibly borrowed from Tenyo’s “Eye of the Idol”, also an excellent trick. Only the Retro Rocketeer props are incomparably more beautiful.
I highly recommend “Aztec Monolith of Fate” to all lovers of beautiful props. I own all the Retro Rocketeer tricks except “Ribbon of Ra” (because I already have such a trick from Magic Wagon) and they are among the most attractive props in my trick collection and most importantly, they all work perfectly and always!

This was my second acquisition from Antony Yap collection. It is amazing on how this piece of magic was designed and developed, a great creation and amazing mechanics were incorporated in this piece of art. The art in this piece is beautiful and incredible details. This effect includes video instructions from Antony, which are complete and detailed. This piece is “magical”. I highly recommend this piece.

    Mr. Yap,
You have outdone yourself. As you know, I own several of your effects and love them all (Eyes of Loki, PSI Block, Mystery of the Rune Ring, Ribbon of Ra, and The Elements).
My favorites so far have been the Ribbon of Ra and the Eyes of Loki.
However, with your Aztec Monolith of Fate, you have achieved something extra special. This review is, for what it’s worth, entirely unsolicited and solely motivated by my appreciation of this effect.
If you recall, I was loathe to jump on this one at first.
Regardless of how it actually functioned, it seemed to me that the secret would be entirely too easily assumed figured out by the spectator, especially since the monolith spins upon its axis base. Struck me as a giveaway:
“Oh, there’s a magnet embedded in the cover; the monolith points toward the same portion of the cover each time.” – Again, that the spectator would think this to be the case.
Not only is that simply not true, but since the monolith can be spun OR left unspun, and since the effect can immediately be repeated with a different (or same) result (which I would actually advise – a repeat – in this instance), and the cover can be in the exact same position, this effect is truly powerful.
The cover goes on (while the monolith is either spinning or stationary), and the performer does not so much as touch the cover or its contents thereafter. Subsequent to covering the monolith, the spectator has free choice of a coin.
The monolith will match the coin color each time.
This is “real magic” at its best. I’d guess a remote control; technically, it is, but not the way one normally thinks of a remote control.
Keep it up, Anthony! Super trick!

Another 5 Star effect from Anthony. (for some reason the site won’t let me click on the 5th Star) Great props with a great look that work smoothly.I personally would suggest when you do the trick a second time to allow the spectator to spin the Monument and put the cover on…it gives that little extra feeling that you’re not controlling anything. I know you can just cover the monument without spinning but to me that just screams you have a way of controlling it and making it move. The random aspect of spinning is the strength of this effect.

A premium version of Tenyo’s “eye of idol”.
Very nice and high quality props, A great addition to my collection.
I hope more of these unique feats come from the mind and hand of Anthony.
